Go West was founded to show the world what Western Canada has to offer.
My name is Jake Hogan. I grew up just outside of Toronto, and had my eyes set on the mountains of the west since I was a little kid. In 2020, a few friends and I loaded into a Jeep that we dubbed the “West Coast Wagon” and drove about 5,000km to Tofino on Canada’s west coast. We hiked mountains, met new friends, slept in the dirt, ate camping pot potatoes a few too many times, and discovered a side of this country that many people even from Canada never get to see. Heading back east, I made it about 1000km to Calgary, stopped, and have been here since.
I started Go West with the idea that the perfect trip falls somewhere in between having an end to end guided itinerary before you leave home, and completely winging it with just a plane ticket and a dream. I have tried both, and while they certainly have their merits, there is a better way. A full itinerary doesn’t provide any flexibility, and you aren’t necessarily doing what you want to do. Having no itinerary gives you lots of flexibility, but you end up spending more time figuring out what to do than actually doing.
I want to give you all the flexibility of the no itinerary approach, while taking away the need for you to do too much planning or booking yourself. You tell me what your ideal trip looks like, and I will use what I know about this place to give you all the best options. You can go at your own pace while being assured that you have every detail at your fingertips for getting around and enjoying the best of Western Canada.
I have been a travel enthusiast since high school, and have done travel every which way. From living on a restaurant floor for 8 weeks in Bolivia, hitchhiking through the Chilean Andes, sleeping under the stars on a ferry deck in Greece, hiking 6 days straight through the Peruvian backcountry, skiing in Chamonix, golfing in the Rocky Mountains, and soaking up 5-star hotels in the Vancouver harbour. Whatever you are looking for in a trip, I can help make it happen.
